Sensorless speed control of PMSM

Abstract

In this chapter, the authors are interested in the sensorless control for nonsalient permanent-magnet synchronous motors (PMSM). The models of the PMSM and the problem formulation are given in the first section of the chapter. The controller structure and the main result are presented in the second section. In the third section, the limitations of a linearization-based design are highlighted. A full information interconnection and damping assignment passivity-based control (IDA-PBC) is given in the fourth section. The fifth section recalls the position observer of Ortega et al, while in the sixth section the new immersion and invariance (I&I) speed and load torque observer is proposed. The seventh section talks about the proof of the main result. Some simulation and experimental results are given in the eighth section, including a comparison with the heuristic controller of Lee et al. Finally the authors wrap-up the chapter with concluding remarks.
