Numerical modeling of laser generation of ultrasound in orthotropic materials

Abstract : Laser generation of ultrasound has been widely demonstrated as an important tool in the non-destructive evaluation of materials. In this publication, we describe a model for the numerical simulation of thermoelastic laser-ultrasonics experiments. This model is based on temporal Laplace and spatial 2D Fourier transformations which permit to solve the mathematical problem for any laser beam intensity distribution or time profile and for materials having orthotropic symmetry. First results of this model are presented and confronted to experiments.
