Asymptotic homogenization and numerical investigation of periodically organized fiber-reinforced composites

Abstract : The purpose of this contribution is to obtain equivalent constitutive parameters of unidirectional fiber-reinforced composites with periodic arrangements of fibers via a lowfrequency homogenization approach. The homogeneized composite structure can then be used to replace the original structure with different constitutive materials and different organizations, in order to speed up the field calculations without losing much accuracy. A rigorous derivation is proposed, and computational accuracy for both lossy and lossless materials exhibited for TE and TM polarized impinging plane waves, independent validation being provided by a semianalytical approach.
