Optimal power flow based control of microgrids providing Volt/VAR services

Abstract : This paper investigates the possibility for controlling microgrid to provide reactive power ancillary services for the distribution grid. The main content is to solve an optimal power flow problem using interior point method to satisfy reactive power injection/absorption requirement at point of common coupling and minimize grid active power losses when microgrid operates in grid-tied mode. A 5-Bus test system is used to show the feasibility of this method.
